Day 4: June 20, 2019
Day 4 began with a short drive up the California Coast to Hearst Castle, the magnificent residence built by William Randolph Hearst to house his extraordinary art collection and entertain his friends. We toured the ground and gardents and then took in the beautiful art masterpieces that adorn the great rooms of this amazing Mediterranean-style estate. After winding our way back down the hill, we set out for Southern California and Los Angeles (or as many people call it, LaLa Land). We passed through rolling hills sprinkled with oak trees, through farmland spread with fields, down the coast through Malibu with all its exceptional homes and on to the beach city of Santa Monica. Dinner was found on the pier, along with a roller coaster and a ferris wheel. After some thrills on the pier, we headed up through expensive Beverly Hills and landed in Hollywood. We took in the Walk of Fame, the Chinese Theater with its handprints and footprints in the cement, the Hollywood sign and the Hollywood Wax Museum. Then, we finished off by looking for souvenirs in the store called (what else?) LaLa Land!
