Day 5: March 11, 2025
Today we woke up in our wonderful hotel surrounded by pine forests in the beautiful tuscan countryside. After breakfast we drove into Florence taking the scenic route past Piazzale Michelangelo where we had our first glimpse of the city from above. Then in the main square we met our guide Elena who took us on a wonderful sightseeing tour of the city. We finished the tour at Leonardo's leather shop, where we learnt about leather production and jewellery making, two of the most important traditional crafts in Florence, and also had a chance to do some shopping. Then everybody had free time to explore the city, some people visited art galleries and museums, others sampled some local snacks and street food or simply strolled around the beautiful streets of the city centre. We enjoyed a delicious three course meal and then headed back to the hotel to pack our bags ready for the journey to Rome tomorrow!
