Girl Scouts: London & Paris

June 25, 2024  -  July 5, 2024

After enjoying an extensive breakfast, we made our way to the nearby Métro station, and into central Paris, where we enjoyed a drink at a pavement café, overlooking the City Hall (poetically, in French, known as the ‘hôtel de ville’), before meeting our local guide, Violette, who led us through the impressive streets of the old Jewish Quarter. We took in the orderly lines of trees around the central statue on Place des Vosges, and the former residences of everyone from Victor Hugo to Jim Morrison! We then headed to the spectacular Galéries Lafayette, for a delicious lunch from one of several restaurants within this giant department store. Emma showed us the huge, jaw-droppingly beautiful coloured glass dome which sits in the centre of the main building, and is visible from each floor, and we climbed seven storeys, to reach the large roof terrace which revealed even more expansive views of Paris. Then followed almost three hours to ourselves, enjoying our lunch, and choosing some souvenirs to bring home! We deftly navigated the underground Parisian Métro and RER train system, travelling to Montparnasse, for savoury gallettes (with ham (or mushrooms), cheese and egg, followed by sweet butter and sugar coated crêpes. We’ve got this navigating-the-warren-of-tunnels and seeking-out-obscure-and-lengthy-names-of-stations as we go to a tee, now! Finally, back to the hotel, for some hard-earned zzz! À demain! See you tomorrow!
