San Francisco & Los Angeles

Day 2 was another adventure in San Francisco. We wound our way across the Bay Bridge in the morning, arriving in early morning grey skies. With a few minutes to spare before our cruise, we stopped at Ghirardelli Square, because it's never too early for chocolate!!! We headed out to our Escape from the Rock cruise where we toured the San Francisco Bay with narration about the Golden Gate Bridge (we went right underneath it!), and stories and history about the notorious federal prison of Alcatraz and the infamous people who lived there. We then had a scrumptious lunch in the historic Ferry Building, whose clock stopped at 5:13am on April 18, 1906, when the San Francisco Earthquake struck! Duly fortified, we headed for the Golden Gate Bridge to walk the two miles across the magnificent span, the most photographed man-made structure in the world. The weather was California cold and windy, but the sun made an appearance, so we didn't freeze before we got to the other side! After catching our breath, we headed across town, passing by the house from Full House to remember all those shows we watched and see the real place. From there, we took on Chinatown, passing through the Pagoda Gate and winding our way up the hill through all the colorful and overflowing Chinese shops. We finished off the day with spring rolls, sizzling rice soup, beef and bok choy, Colonel Chow's chicken, pork fried rice, veggie chow mein, oolong tea and, of course, fortune cookies! And it looks like everyone has an auspicious future in the making!
