Day 1: April 1, 2023
Sorry this is day 2 day 1 follows. Today is Sunday. We spent the night in Kanab last night at a nice hotel among the red rock mesas. This morning we drove into Zion National Park. The sky is clear and the temp was in the 30s to start our day. A gorgeous day for a hike. In Zion we went to the visitor center to get passport books stamped then attended a ranger talk on geology, which was good. Several of us are rock nerds.
Then we went up to the lodge and hiked to Upper Emerald Pool. The trail was a bit crowded but so worth it. Today we saw mule deer, drove through the iconic Zion tunnel and saw bison just outside the east entrance to the park.
After Zion we went to Coral Pink Sands park where everyone rode sand boards down the gigantic sand dunes. It was a good day.
We plan to have salad and pizza for dinner and check out everyone’s pictures from today.
