The capital city of Santiago is home to Chile’s main administrative, commercial, cultural, financial and governmental bodies. Take a tour through the city’s most important historic and cultural sites, including Barrios Lastarria, La Moneda (the Presidential Palace), Plaza de Armas, Mercado Central (Chile’s largest fresh seafood market), and Cerro Santa Lucia, which marks the spot where the city of Santiago was founded and provides a wonderful view of downtown Santiago.

Puerto Varas, which sits on the southwest banks of the expansive Lake Llanquihue, offers commanding views of snow-capped Osorno Volcano and Calbuco Volcano, both still active. Featuring traditional German-style architecture, the town includes modern residential developments and beautiful gardens. Explore the town’s fascinating architecture before walking through the town square.

From the town of Pargua, take a ferry to sail through the Chacao Channel to the Island of Chiloé. Visit the town of Chacao before heading to Puñihuil. From there, sail to the islets to see the Humboldt and Magallanes penguins in the only place in the world where the species nest together.

Visit the city of Ancud and explore its local craft market, famous for woven and carved woodwork.

Stop at the Los Riscos lookout point to observe the Llanquihue Lake and the Osorno Volcano, the nearly 9,000-foot volcano that is known for its resemblance to Mount Fuji.

Valparaíso was one of the first Chilean cities founded by the Spaniards. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003 for its architectural and cultural importance, the city is also one of the most interesting in Chile. You will start in the downtown sector, learning the history of "Valpo" and its importance in the trade and commerce of South America. Centennial elevators will transport you to the steep hills of the city, where a labyrinth of streets reveals brightly colored buildings, bohemian cafés and elegant restaurants, and spectacular views of the harbor. Your tour will take you on foot through two of the most famous and eclectic neighborhoods, Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre. In addition, you’ll visit one of the three houses converted into Pablo Neruda's museums, La Sebastiana.

In most cases, your flight home is overnight. You will return home on Day 12.
