Are you ready for some “fútbol?” This soccer team traveled with Explorica to Spain to visit famous stadiums (like FC Barcelona’s above), play with the pros, and learn the secrets of the Spanish “futbolistas.” You too can bring your team to play in Spain by customizing one of our many Spanish tours.
Welcome to Spain, home of paella, flamenco dancing and FC Barcelona. Recently, a soccer team from Ottawa created their own perfect tour with Explorica, squeezing in practices and international matches across Spain, France and Italy. Read about the Spanish leg of their trip below.
Day 1: Ferry to Barcelona
If you’ve ever been on an American ferry, your experience was probably mediocre to say the least. But apparently the ferry rides across the Mediterranean are a little classier than those we expect at home. This Rome to Barcelona ferry was “more like a cruise ship,”boasting a pool, game room and more. Talk about traveling in style!
Day 2: Tour Barcelona and FC Barcelona visit
These soccer players work hard, but they had plenty of time to take a break and explore throughout the trip. In Barcelona, the team visited Gaudi’s awe-inspiring masterpiece the Sagrada Familia, the 1992 Olympic stadium, the gardens of Parc Güell, and finally the Camp Nou, FC Barcelona’s home stadium (see photo above).
Day 3: Practice with the RCD Espanyol
That’s right, this average, everyday high school soccer team had the chance to play with the world-renowned Spanish soccer team the Espanyol (yes, that’s the correct spelling). You can imagine these students were pretty excited to see their heroes up close, and put their Spanish speaking skills to good use on the soccer field.
Day 4: Leave Spain
To top off the trifecta of Barcelona soccer fandom, on their last day in Spain the students practiced at the CF Cunit facilities before hitting the beach. Spending a week traveling across the Mediterranean isn’t a bad way to practice soccer, considering the number of beaches conveniently located along this trip.

At Explorica, we’re always dishing up tours made specifically for your group. This particular team took a tour through Rome, Barcelona and Marseille, but you can create your own tour in Spain or elsewhere.
