Are you looking for a trip filled with language learning, natural wonders, or unforgettable adventures? How about all three? That’s what you get with our Language Immersion: Costa Rica tour.

Part of our language immersion collection, Language Immersion: Costa Rica is one of five tours that combine intensive vocabulary classes with corresponding activities. Start each morning with a three-hour class covering vocabulary on a particular theme; then, spend the rest of the day exploring with the locals and using the vocabulary in fun activities that match the day’s lesson.

And your students will stay excited the whole way through: this tour includes stunning sights and thrilling activities that will keep them on their toes. Read more about the tour below.

Language Immersion: Costa Rica (8-9 days)

Before the start of class, land in Liberia and get ready to have a blast immersing your students in Spanish in one of the most eco-rich travel destinations in the world.

Your students will get an introduction to beautiful Costa Rica with two adventures. Head to Rincón de La Vieja National Park, and see the 6,286-foot active volcano (which last erupted in June 2017!), while spotting the abundance of wildlife, including monkeys, jaguars, sloths, and 300 species of birds. Feeling adventurous? Take an optional canopy zip line tour through the treetops.

Old West: Take your “Old West”-themed vocabulary class on Day 3, and then travel to Guanacaste, the “Old West” of Costa Rica, to talk about all you see with your local tour director. Home to a dry tropical forest, this arid region is also host to plenty of gorgeous beaches. Look for sabaneros (Costa Rican cowboys) riding horses or herding cattle on the rough landscape.

Adventure: They don’t speak Spanish, but that doesn’t mean you won’t hear dolphins talking on your snorkeling trip. Your students will take their Spanish “adventure” class in the morning, and then will engage with a local guide who will work with your students to learn about dolphins. You’ll then take a dip in the ocean and listen to them communicate using various noises, including clicks and whistle sounds.

Food: From Gallo Pinto to Casado to Tamales, there’s no shortage of good local food in Costa Rica. Take a morning language class focusing on Costa Rican food. Then, take a cooking class with a local instructor. Your students will speak and learn how to cook with their instructor before getting to enjoy their creations themselves.

Biodiversity: The theme for your morning class is the rich biodiversity of Costa Rica. Your students will learn all the vocabulary they’ll need to speak about the natural landscape and wildlife at the Werner Sauter Biological Reserve, where they’ll take a guided tour with a local guide. The dry tropical forest houses howler monkeys, the long-tailed manakin, tropical porcupines, 40 species of birds, and much more.

Pura Vida: Learn the language of relaxation before using it in a yoga lesson led by local Costa Rican instructors. Then, cool off when you head to the Samara beach for a swim in the turquoise waters with Costa Ricans. The beach is friendly to tourists while still retaining an authentic, local beach feel.

Can’t get enough of Costa Rica? Tack on an extra day to go on a whitewater rafting guided excursion through a river surrounded by lush rainforest.
