What to expect on tour: FAQs

We stay in close contact with our group leaders and tour directors throughout the entire trip-planning process; from the first phone call to returning home, we are there every step of the way. Here are a few of the frequently asked questions and answers about what to expect while you are on your tour:

What kind of pace should I expect?
Our tours are designed for young travelers with the enthusiasm to do and see everything there is. Tours are very fast paced and can include several miles of walking on a daily basis. In some cities, cobblestone streets will be a challenge and in others, hills. On multi-country tours, you should also expect to spend several hours of travel time on a bus. The bus will make routine stops for snacks and a restroom break. Travelers with any concerns are encouraged to speak with a medical professional for advice.

I am concerned about the physical abilities of some of my travelers. What should I do?
Schedule a meeting with your group to make sure that they are aware that the tour will be physically demanding. Travelers should make their own decisions and are encouraged to speak with a doctor if they have their own concerns. On tour, participants are welcome to take a break, just note that they will not be reimbursed for activities they choose to miss. Be sure that travelers with physical limitations have contacted our Customer Care team to submit an Accessibility Form to us. Those with medical concerns should also check with TSA about assistance.

What will we actually visit on tour?
Because the locations on our tours have so many interesting features, it is impossible to visit everything. On our Guided Sightseeing Tours, you will be on a bus driving by many of the main sights. You will go inside all sites on your tour where the itinerary specifies it as a “visit.” If you have questions about an activity or a specific location, be sure to contact your Program consultant.

How much free time will we have?
This ultimately depends on your tour and whether or not you have selected to add the available optional activities to your itinerary. On most days you will have a free hour for lunch and maybe another hour or so later in the day to explore. If you have not selected optional activities on a certain day, you will have free time while this would normally be taking place.

If I am on a service tour, what will be our volunteer activity?
On our volunteer tours, we work with multiple organizations to help make the greatest impact we can. Because community needs can change in the blink of an eye, your volunteer activities will vary. In some cases, you may be helping to build walls, paint communities or play games with locals. Be sure to bring clothes you don’t mind getting dirty!

Can my group bring donations? If so, what do you recommend we bring?
Absolutely! It is encouraged. School supplies, sports equipment and games are frequently requested. We know that packing these items can be tricky, so you are also welcome to bring money and your tour director will help you go to a store and buy supplies in the country.
