Explorica general FAQs

We stay in close contact with our group leaders and tour directors throughout the entire trip-planning process; from the first phone call to returning home, we are there every step of the way. Here are a few of the frequently asked questions that we get during the planning process:

Do you give group leaders an international phone?
We do not.  We recommend all travelers contact their cell phone service provider for options.

How do you recommend we contact home?
If Wi-Fi is available, smartphones will be an asset.  Apps like WhatsApp and Viber are great options for families to communicate while you are overseas.  If parents are interested in making sure a traveler has a phone connection, and they should talk to their service provider about temporary international phone plans and or international calling card options.

What do I do in the event of an emergency or a major concern on tour?
Your tour director is your best asset while abroad with us.  They will help you contact our 24/7 Emergency Line to find a solution.  Be sure to print out the On-Tour Info Packet from your Tour Center before departing.  It will be available for you 20 days before your trip and includes this number.

If I have purchased insurance through Explorica, how does it work while I am on tour?
You will be responsible for all on-tour expenses, but you should save all receipts to file a claim when you return home.  For detailed information, we recommend contacting TripMate directly.

Do I need a notarized form from parents with permission to take travelers out of the country?
Nope!  This has all been covered in our Participant Release and Agreement that all travelers over 18 or parents/guardians signed upon enrolling a traveler on a trip.

I heard there is an entry fee for the country I am visiting?  Is this included?
American and Canadian tourists visiting Nicaragua or the Dominican Republic are required to purchase a tourist card for $10 upon arrival.  Please ensure that your group is prepared to pay this fee.  All other entrance fees are included in our tours.

What tours require young travelers to bring a Parental Consent form?
Consent forms are required by the airlines for all individuals under the age of 18 who are traveling to Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Mexico, Panama or Canada.  If traveling to these locations, you will be sent a form one month before your trip which must be completed and notarized by all travelers under age 18.  Argentina only requires the consent form for travelers who are 14 years old or younger.
