Wake Tech to Offer Educational Tour of Cuba

RALEIGH, N.C. (February 4, 2013) Wake Tech will become one of the first community colleges in the nation to lead an educational trip to Cuba. The college is teaming up with Explorica, a tour operator based in Boston, Massachusetts, to offer students an 8-day international learning experience. The trip, scheduled to begin on August 2, 2013, will include visits to an urban organic garden, an art institute, and a cavern. The group will explore Old Havana, visit with local musicians and enjoy Cuban cuisine. The trip is open to students and their families, Wake Tech staff and faculty, and members of the community.

“International exchanges are a wonderful way to experience other cultures and prepare students for success in a global economy,” says tour organizer and Wake Tech instructor Jeff Myers. “This is a rare opportunity to visit communist Cuba, and learn about its history, its government, its economy and the arts.

U.S. citizens are not allowed to travel to Cuba, except for approved educational excursions such as this. An informational meeting will be held on February 6 at 5:30 p.m. on Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus. It will take place in Building D, Room 410.

Wake Tech is also leading a trip to Eastern Europe in May, and space is still available. For more information on cost and how to register for either trip visit http://www2.waketech.edu/blogs/study-abroad/ or contact Jeff Myers at 919-795-9264.
