Customizing a standard tour
Every Explorica tour can be customized with add-ons, extensions, or extended stays. Add-ons and extensions can even be selected on your own, right on our website.
Add-ons
Add-ons are optional activities (commonly called “excursions”), that generally last a half day and include an additional cost. Examples include a guided excursion to Versailles and a Broadway show in New York City. All optional add-ons will be clearly listed on the tour pricing page; simply select the ones you’d like to include.
Extensions
Typically two or more days in length, extensions give you the opportunity to explore a nearby destination, or to go more in-depth at your tour’s final stop. Examples include an extension to Sorrento for tours ending in Rome, or a river-rafting extension for tours to Costa Rica. If an extension is available, it will be clearly listed as an option on the tour pricing page.
*Extensions require the commitment of the entire group.

Stay-aheads and stay-behinds
Many groups opt to extend their tour by adding days to the beginning or end of their regularly-scheduled itinerary. This is a great option to further explore your arrival or departure city.
For these added days, we can arrange your activities and accommodations for you (just like any other day on tour), or you can opt to do it on your own after we make new flight arrangements. Talk to your program consultant directly if you’d like to add days to your tour.
*Stay-aheads and stay-behinds can be scheduled on an individual traveler basis and do not require the participation of the entire group.
Customizing a private tour
For groups with 15 or more paying participants, we offer an exciting array of additional customization options. These customizations can be made on your own through our website, or with the assistance of your program consultant. To access these options when pricing a tour online, simply enter a group size of 15 or more and select the “Turn this into a Private Tour” checkbox.
Meal and accommodation upgrades
We give you the option to upgrade your meals and/or accommodations, for your entire tour or for individual days. Prefer hotels closer to city centers? No problem. Want to give your students a truly special dining experience one night of your tour? Done.
Activity changes
You can add, swap, or remove itinerary activities simply by dragging and dropping them into or out of your itinerary. Remaining free time will be calculated instantly as you make your edits.
