Featured Destination: The Yucatan
When people think of the Yucatan Peninsula, they often think of the white powdery sands and pale turquoise waters of Cancun and Cozumel beaches—and with good reason. The shorelines of these resort towns are stunning, and the surrounding waters boast rich biodiversity. But the beauty of Mexico’s Eastern most tip is not limited to the coasts alone. Meet the Team: Sarah Huskey
This summer Program Consultant Sarah Huskey traveled on tour to China. We asked her six questions about her “most fascinating travel experience to-date”.
- What surprised you the most about China?
Chinese cities are so crowded and traffic was insane! I wasn’t expecting it to be so hectic.
- What was your tour’s most memorable activity?
Visiting the Great Wall of China!
- What’s the one thing you were glad you packed?
Hand sanitizer – it’s my travel staple.
- How was the food?
The food was good and there was always plenty of it. But don’t expect the kind of Chinese food you get in the U.S.! You eat what the locals eat. And since you’re in China, it’s “all Chinese all the time”. I brought some granola bars for snacks.
- Do you need to know much Chinese?
You can get by in the cities with none. But when you travel it’s always polite to know “Hello, Goodbye, Please and Thank you” in the native language.
- What’s your # 1 travel tip?
Make sure you have the names and addresses of your hotels written in Chinese. Taxi drivers don’t speak or read English and if you need to go back to the hotel unexpectedly you will have problems without the translation. You can get translations online or get copies of the hotel’s business card when you arrive.
